* For Parents
We created a class Code of Cooperation. Everyone contributed and we decided what we thought were fair main 'rules' for our year. When including the students in the rule making process, it keeps them more accountable for their actions.
Here are some more class/school procedures and expectations:
Entering & Exiting the School
Students arriving on their own may enter through the back doors of the school (Community Entrance between our school and St. André). If they are leaving at any time during the day, they have to be signed out at the main office.

Shoes
Students must take off and carry their outdoor shoes through the school to put on the boot rack outside our class. Indoor shoes will be placed on their chairs at the end of the day.

Schedule
We are on a DAY 1-5 schedule, although it is not a true rotation and does not affect us much. Our timetable is posted under the 'This Week' page. All the bell times & break times are indicated on there.

Homework Policy
I am a big advocate in living a balanced lifestyle and have always kept myself busy with extracurricular sports & music. I know it is challenging for families to find time to do loads of homework with their busy schedules, therefore I will not be sending homework home. It is an expectation that students read at least 30 minutes daily at home. This can be done individually, with an adult or reading to a younger sibling. Some ways to fit this into your child’s day may be reading in the car to/from extracurriculars, reading a sibling their bed time story, etc. It is also important to practice basic facts to be able to succeed in Math. I will provide support in this by giving students ideas in how to do this.

* The only time homework will be sent home is when students had more than enough time to finish work in class and did not use their time wisely.
Agenda
Agendas are a useful tool for communication. I will be checking and initialing agendas on a daily basis. If you have any notes or questions for me, I encourage you to write them in the space provided. Each day your child will write a message for you to read that night. Please sign your child’s agenda after reading the message so I can confirm important information was communicated to you.

Lunch
We have recess first (12:00-12:28) and we eat after (12:28-12:50). Students eat in the class for the second portion. Please pack healthy lunches and snacks that do not need a microwave.
Meet-the-Teacher Night
We will have an official 'meet-the-teacher night' on Thursday, September 8th, from 6:00-7:00 PM. This will be 'open house' style. Please put this date on your calendar & make it a priority to attend. I would love the opportunity to connect with you, give you more information about the school year & answer any questions you may have.
Scholastic Book Orders
Every month or so, I will be sending Scholastic flyers home. If you wish to order anything, fill out the order form and return it to school. You have the option to pay online or by cheque.
Birthdays
Students are welcome to bring a special snack for their birthday. Please send a snack that is appropriate and easy to manage in a classroom.
Cellphone Corner
Devices like iPods & smartphones are allowed to be brought to school because there will be opportunity for students to use them for educational purposes. I do not tolerate social media, texting or games on their phone during the school day. If they wish to bring their device, they must power it down and place it in the device holder in the class. The students know the expectations for this as we have discussed it in class.
We have a class instagram account @miss.jenkins.6B. It is a private account where only the followers I accept will have access to the photos on the page. This page is open to 6B students and their parents. If you wish to follow this page just send me an email with your instagram account and I will accept your request.
General Information/Teaching Style
I truly believe that every child can grow, develop and become life-long learners. I will be challenging each student at their own level to help them succeed. Students will be given opportunity to take risks in a safe and caring learning environment.
