Talking Circle

Class Meeting

First Nations people have used the technique of a Talking Circle for generations to share ideas, resolve conflict, and make sure everyone is heard. We had that opportunity today to discuss some class issues. We used an Oilers flag as our Talking Stick for the person sharing ideas. Every student has the choice to "pass" if they do not want to share, and the other classmates were respectful of that. Everyone else had the responsobility to stay quiet and listen to their classmates.

This is a technique that we will continue to use through the year to better our classroom and ourselves.

Tree Cookies

We continued to build our knowledge of TREE COOKIES at Miquelon Lake last week. We examined them closely to determine the kind of life they have had. For example, was there a fire, how old the tree was, if the tree grew on a slant, was it a really rainy season or not. We learned a lot! :)

Miquelon Lake Trees and Forests Field Trip

Students did an awesome job using a GPS to find little treasures in the forest a.k.a Geocaching. 

 

Beginning with Geocaching for the first half of the day at Miquelon Lake. Doing some learning before the adventure begins.

There is so much to be thankful for.  Students had the opportunity on Friday to reflect on what they are thankful for!

Fawwaz wanted to explain to the class another long division strategy. He was a great leader, the class learned a lot from him, and I had fun being a student for a few minutes. :)

     

FCC Drive Away Hunger Food Bank Challenge!!

Farm Credit Canada and other food banks are collecting food bank items across the country. We are challenging St. Andre to collect the most items! Please bring your non-perishable food items in between October 4-14! 

Terry Fox Walk/Run

 On Thursday, September 29th, Dansereau took part in a school wide Terry Fox Walk/ Run. Students fundraised money by asking family, friends and neighbours for donations that would go the Terry Fox Foundation which supports cancer research. We had such an amazing time on a beautiful day walking and running for such a good cause. Many fun memories were made with 6B!

 Everyone was running for someone, a grandparent, a family
member, a friend or even Terry Fox!
